Logos to go on the front of my magazine

 No7. Lipstick

Neptoons

I thought I would make some logos to go on the front of my magazine.
I made these from photo I took in my bedroom up against a roll of white wallpaper, I went on the edited them on photoshop and fireworks.
The shoe company 'neptoons' came about because i thought i didn't have much to do with fashion on my blog and I am selling it as a music and fashion magazine. 'neptoons' will be advertising there new range in the magazine.
The No7.lipstick will be either on the front cover or the contents page. This will be related to one of my articles within my magazine.

Front Cover Update

This an update of my front cover.
On reflection i think i will put some more photos on it of things other than Maddi. Because I think it will become over run with her. So I plan to make some logos and adverts for the front cover.
But other than that I am happy with my progress.

Update Of Front Cover

This is an update of my front cover I think it looks a bit bare and bland at the moment. I will add a catch line for my magazine and this will sit under the masthead. I also need some more topics and inserts from other articles that I want to include inside the magazine.

I am happy with my colour scheme and the pictures I have chosen to use. I don’t think I will have photos of Maddi in my magazine because I think that won’t interest my target audience. So I think I will take that bit out. I think it is coming along well.

Front Cover Draft From Within InDesign

This is a screen shot of me working on my magazine. This is what I see when I am working on it.

Barcode

This is a barcode that I made to go on the front of my magazine.

I had a look at other barcodes online and this was my version. I had my friends look at it and they thought I was really realistic. I will place it in the right hand corner of the magazine, because from my research that is the most common place for it to be placed. But I will make sure it is small enough that it doesn't distract from the main pictures.

Draft Of My Title Page

This is an advanced draft. I think the font looks a bit unprofessional. So I think I will change that, but I think using that picture as my background is a good idea because it is a full body photo so gives the illusion that the page is full without being too busy. And there is enough space around the edge to write information about the magazine.

Original Photos

I took my photos in Ruislip woods and against a white wall in my house. Me and my friend Maddi looked at pictures from magazines and online from such sites as tumblr and lookbook for inspiration.
I took over 350 pictures, so I only uploaded ones i was going to consider using. I will use a wide range shot types and shot styles.

Unedited Photos From The Woods

These are some of my ones from my house;

Plan for my photos

I have asked my good friend Maddi Clarke to be my model for my magazine
I have chosen her because not only does she have previous modeling experience she fits into the style of my magazine and is stunningly pretty and a role model for all my teenage readers.

Maddi and I will go off to Ruislip Woods to take the photos along with my bridge camera. Maddi has said it is okay for me to style what she wears and I have put my thinking cap on but I want her to appear relatable and 'girl next door' material so I don't want her in something too fancy. As well it will be cold, muddy and we will be in broad public it is important to be practical. So i think just jeans and a nice coat that shows off her stunning figure.

I am going to take photos at close up, medium and long shot so I have variation. looking though other magazines I think the way the subject is standing says a lot if she feels uncomfortable it is likely to be visible in her facial expression so I will have to just take many photos in positions Maddi feels comfortable with. But I will cover all the basics; looking back, sitting down, from above ect.

In addition to this I am also going to set up a home studio with a white wall in my house, I will get Maddi to change into something a bit more dressy and then will get a selection of props and get her to pose with them. I think by doing this I will get some really quirky pictures but still with that glamour look about them.

I am planning to take lots and lots of pictures because it is a lot easier to take more photos and not use them than to set it all up again to take more.

Distribution: local shops, supermarkets & subscription
Rationale: i am aiming mine at teenage girls and hopping feed fans and crazes e.g. '1 direction infection' & 'bilebers'
Style:i will stick with a basic colour theme;
hot pink
lime green
zesty orange
& white
Regular content:

horocsopes
quizzes, prize will always be concert tickets
Feature content in your issue:

House style: what font will you use? I will keep all my fonts simple and easy to read, but news and specials i will use a more eye catching font like 'jailhouse' to draw readers in especially on the front page

Positioning statement

I thought had about positioning statements that I could use here are some ideas i came up with;

· rhythmic hearts can’t be broken

· when we have music, we have everything

· all we need is bass and a beat

· wild side of a pretty beat

· the only exception

· let’s find a beautiful place to get lost

· money can’t buy us happiness

· don’t mean to impress you but this is a cool magazine

· music, fashion and more...

I like the second one because it is almost like a quote that applies to everyday life. But i think the last one is more applicable to a music magazine and the ellipsis makes you want to read on.

Contents Page Anylisis- Alternative Essay

This was my alternative copy of an essay that i hand wrote then scanned and uploaded. I found this task very informative. And I never really paid attention to the details on contents pages until this task. And I think this will make mine that much stronger. I think mine is going to look most like Qmagizine. but i think mine will only be one page because mines a weekly rather than monthly so will contain less.

Questionnaire & Results

30 copies of my questionnaire got sent out, I got 22 back this was the results;

About half of the people were between 15&16 that is in the middle of my target audience, so things they suggested will be relevant.

I found out that none of the  people i surveyed brought music magazines, this was either because they are not interested in the content, or they think they are over priced, so i will have to include things that will appeal to a wider audience. Maybe with fashion advice pages or an agony aunt? I can include what people mainly look for when they read magazines.

The celebrities that were most recognised were the singers so i think i will create mine to be a new, fresh pop star.

About 90% said they liked to cover of we <3 pop, they said it was ‘busy’ ‘eye cathing’ and ‘bright’ so i think i will chose a colour pattern and stick to it i think lime green, bright orange and black. Or maybe something more feminine?

The name of my magazine, the vote came in for it to be called purple. I this was my personal favourite of the suggested names.

Music Mood Board & Collage

This is my music mood board and will be my inspiration and spring board for all my ideas within my magazine.
I think that the artists and the fashion choices that I will include within my magazine will be constantly changing as I want it to stay current.
I think even within a month some of the people I have put in now, will look like'old news'.

My Basis/Inspration

I am roughly basing my magazine on 'we <3 pop'. This is a pop music magazine aimed at teenagers. it is very busy and bright.

I went into WHSmiths and had a flick through this magazine.
I like the fact that the theme brings it all together and it is all interlinking. For example the main cover story is the story on the double page spread. But there is not only one story on the magazine there are many this is to bring other readers in to show that the magazine has more variation than just the one story.
I like the aspect of fashion because I think music and fashion are very similar things both hip and happening but also constantly changing by adding a splash of fashion and freebies to my magazine i think it will sell itself more and appeal to more individuals.
The bold title of the star leaves no guessing as to what is in the magazine or as to what it is about. i think clear titling and is important and to make sure things are split up will so you know what goes with what and what belongs were.

Screen shot of final for the preliminary task

In my privite work lesson I worked on my contents page.
I am very pleased with how it has turened out i think i have learnt a lot that I can apply to my own magazine.
One or Two things I would change if i was to do it again would be the font in black i think looks a bit bland and add some more pictures but for the time i was set to do this i think this is a good level/standard of work.

Final Scren Shot Of Front Cover Preliminary Task

I like the cover of my magazine but i think it is a bit too bland and too boring if i was to do it again i would for sure use more pictures bolder and brighter fonts and more pictures that link to the words/stories around it.
One thing i am happy with is the fact that the trees (in left hand corner) stand out as that is the school's logo and this would of continued right through the magazine as a watermark.
I am confident at using inDesign now and will be happy to use it for my final magazine.
